The CUDL Story

How CUDL began...
It began shortly after a manager at The Golden 1 Credit Union was told by her boss to start doing loans with auto dealers without adding staff or overtime. Upon that direction, the manager and a programmer went to work on a point-of-purchase lending prototype that was shared with their local dealers and later became CUDL.

Word spreads fast when something new and innovative produces great results – and this is what happened with CUDL. In 1994, CUDL was officially made into a lending platform by The Golden 1 Credit Union and California Credit Union League. CUDL became the catalyst for credit union financing at the dealership, while credit unions and dealers began to work together in a way that they never could before.

By 2002, CUDL had grown large enough to warrant being split away from the Credit Union and League. It was at this time that CU Direct Corporation, a Credit Union-owned Service Organization (CUSO), became parent to CUDL so that more resources could be dedicated to helping credit unions better serve their members.

CUDL today...
The core of CUDL is still the same. CUDL is still credit union-focused. And, although CUDL has grown to be the largest indirect and point-of-purchase provider for credit unions, we also offer a full-range of other vehicle lending and sales solutions that help our credit unions build strong auto lending portfolios and help our dealers increase sales.

CUDL is friendly and accommodating. Our solutions are flexible, affordable and convenient. Most importantly, we care about the well-being of our credit unions. This, we believe, are the things that separate us from competition and will help us to continue to make our story even better as we continue in the future.
